Students who have received a Zero for an assignment in Rediker are still required to complete the assignment for partial credit.
Upcoming Formal Assessments: Wednesday, September 25 - Test on Old Yeller, Chapters 1-10 Thursday, October 10 - "Texas Project" (Alternative Assessment) *Students will still receive homework and classwork activities. These dates are upcoming formal assessments.
Novel Study: Old Yeller. The students have been receiving guided questions for the novel study. These questions help the students to refer to their text to find relevant evidence to the main ideas of the text. We work on them in class and incomplete work is due the following day for homework. This format also serves as a resource to determine the overall structure of the novel and how it contributes to its craft and complexity. It's an American classic tale that all students should be exposed to in their lives.
In addition to the questions, students will continue to work on their Interactive Notebook. We provide them with graphic organizers and various activities to get the students actively engaged in the novel study. The students will receive an Alternative Assessment grade for their organization, completion, and correct answers.
"Texas Project" was assigned on Friday, September 20. The details of this assignment can be found in their Interactive Notebook. This assignment will be in Google Classroom and we will give them time in class to work on this.
This novel will be the primary source of literature this nine weeks, so students have been instructed to bring just their novels, interactive notebook for the novel to class until further instructions. This also helps to alleviate carrying needless materials to and from classes.
Vocabulary We will be working on Unit 3 this week. Students will be asked to complete Set A and then Set B with those respective lessons. Students are asked to create note cards as a means for studying. Those note cards will be collected on the quiz days and will serve as TWO bonus points (one for each lesson completed). While these note cards are not mandatory, we strongly recommend using them since they produce active recall instead of just rote memorization. Students are encouraged to color-code them (ex: red for all nouns) or apply whichever study skills method is best for them.
