Students who have received a Zero for an assignment in Rediker are still required to complete the assignment for partial credit.
Hello 7th Grade Parents, I want to explain the grading for the Chapter 3 test to avoid any confusion. The students were tested on Chapter 3 on Wednesday, September 25th. I began grading the tests and quickly realized that the grades were unsatisfactory across the board. I was able to determine, however, that the majority of the issue was either that the students appeared to have not read the directions, or, did not study for the test. The material in chapter 3 is fairly simple, which is why these grades were shocking to me. I decided to re-test them. On Monday, September 30th, the students re-took the Chapter 3 test. They also had a verb conjugation quiz scheduled for that day, so I added the verb conjugation onto the re-test. They also had the option to use their book for the re-take. In most cases, the re-test was significantly better. As far as the grading goes, I’ve decided to combine the total amount of possible points from each test to create a “new” total. This means, they would have their earned score from each test added together. I conferred with both Mrs. Gioe and Mrs. Leier to make this decision. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.
The scores for each test are as follows: Original: ___/56 points Re-test: ___/70 Points
FinalScore: ____/126 points
Thanks, Camille DeBenedetto Upcoming Formal Assessments Tuesday, October 9 - Paragraph due (we are working on this in class) *Students will still receive homework and classwork activities. These dates are upcoming formal assessments.
Grammar Chapter 3. We have been reviewing types of sentences: declarative, imperative, interrogative, exclamatory. We also have been reviewing how to vary sentence structure by using compound parts, key words and phrases, and vary sentence structure (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex). Not only have we been going through the text for these lessons, but we have also applied these sentence structures through revising paragraphs together.
Chapter 4. This lesson in our text goes hand-in-hand with our writing. We will review this chapter in how to write effective paragraphs:
Main Idea/Topic Sentence
Supporting Details
Paragraph Unity
Coherence
Transitional Words & Phrases
Writing Going back to the basics - sentence structure. Each year, students should grow in their writing and demonstrate increasing sophistication in all aspects of their language use. We have been reviewing and instructing how to write good "meaty" sentences in addition to how to identity the various sentence types. We will apply what we have been reviewing/learning in the writing process of a two-paragraph "essay." Students will be provided with a rubric of what is expected and then graded upon meeting/exceeding those expectations. This assignment will be in Google Classroom and will be typed and printed in class.
Conjugations - Verb Tense We have backtracked into Conjugation of Verb Tense to ensure students not only understand how to define the tenses, but also understand why these tenses exist in the first place. The feedback has been positive. Students will receive a "Bell Ringer" daily verb to conjugate this week. These are done in class the first few minutes and are due at the end of the week. Up to this point, we have given them grades for completion. This week's conjugations will be graded on correctness also.
