Students who have received a Zero for an assignment in Rediker are still required to complete the assignment for partial credit.
Upcoming Formal Assessments Wednesday, October 9 - Persuasive Essay (we are working on this in class) *Students will still receive homework and classwork activities. These dates are upcoming formal assessments.
Grammar Chapter 3. We reviewed and tested on Verbal Phrases and Appositives last week. Although this was just one lesson in Chapter 3, we felt it a complex topic to serve as its own test. Continuing through Chapter 3, we will focus on how to combine sentences using key words and phrases, subordinate clauses, and compound sentences. This will lead directly into Writing.
Chapter 5. We will learn parts of an essay:
Developing & Evaluating the Thesis
Writing an Introduction
Developing Body Paragraphs (Topic Sentences, Organization, Coherence)
Writing a Conclusion
Writing We have such strong opinions in this eighth grade that we are transferring that passion into writing a Persuasive Essay. The essay will have a strong thesis, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Their topic will focus on their school and what new school rule they would like to implement. They will introduce their claims with logical reasoning and relevant evidence. They will use words, phrases and clauses to create cohesion and clarity. Students will be provided with a rubric of what is expected and then graded upon meeting/exceeding those expectations. This assignment will be in Google Classroom and they will type and print their essays in class.
Conjugations We have backtracked into Conjugation of Verb Tense to ensure students not only understand how to define the tenses, but also understand why these tenses exist in the first place. The feedback has been positive. Students will receive a "Bell Ringer" daily verb to conjugate this week. These are done in class the first few minutes and are due at the end of the week. Up to this point, we have given them grades for completion. This week's conjugations will be graded on correctness also.
